Our Story
Anju has been a classroom teacher for 4 decades. She started her career teaching Physics at Sophia College, Mumbai, immediately after completing her Masters in Science (Electronics). She also taught at Bluebells School International, Delhi, and the Kodaikanal International School in India before arriving at The Hotchkiss School where she has been teaching since 2001. While it is inevitable to evolve as an instructor, both through personal reflection of practice and as tools get more sophisticated; the changing nature of the learner also has an impact on how a teacher practices their trade.
Anju’s interest in Mindful practices grew through her personal practice of Yoga, as well as from her observation of the youngsters she worked with in her classroom. She is certified as an Ayurvedic Yoga Teacher from the Kripalu School of Yoga and Health. She is trained to offer Transformative Meditation and trained in Level 1 Certification of Outdoor Mindful Experience from the Kripalu School of Yoga and Health. Her most recent training in Health and Wellness from the Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health propelled her to look at Health and Wellness through the lens of the Six Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine - Nutrition, Physical Activity, Restorative Sleep, Stress Resiliency, Avoiding Harmful Substances, and Social Connections.
As a Health and Wellness Coach across the Lifespan, she uses Motivational Interviewing techniques to make the client a collaborator in developing their individualized plan for change.
